I've just completed thing 2.

Here they show you about the home screen and when you slide up at the bottom you get the control
center, which has the quick controls.  Some of the things you can access from this is airplane mode, wifi on/off control, sound, brightness, camera & clock.  Slide down on the home screen pulls up the notification center, which takes up the whole screen.  Double tap on the home button brings up the multi tasking screen. From here you can scroll throught and see all the open applications.  To Close them just slide up on the application.
